In As the Light Allows, Jefferson Hayman turns photography's attention back on itself — on the conditions that make an image possible and the traditions that shape how we receive one. Working across subjects both interior and elemental, Hayman embraces the tonal warmth and material weight of historical printing processes to locate his work within a longer history of the medium. What unites the collection is less a common subject than a shared disposition: patient, atmospheric, attentive to the qualities of light that no camera fully captures but every photograph attempts.
